This July, Mrs Renee Holz, principal of Sylvania High School, will be taking on the challenge of the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea and will be using this adventure to raise money for our amazing school!
A message from Mrs Holz:
This July, I will be taking on the leeches, torrential rain and punishing humidity of the 138km Kokoda Track with a group of high school principals in the footsteps and honour of our brave soldiers who conquered the track in November 1942. To make the most of this opportunity, and as an added incentive for me to complete the journey, I am raising money to support the Sutherland Hospital School in Caringbah. The Sutherland Hospital School is part of the Department of Education, and ensures children and young people have continuity of education when they are experiencing illness. Whether it's education delivered at their bedside, or in the community class, the individualised support they provide to young people is invaluable and has been a game changer for many families across the Sutherland Shire, including families at my school. Our soldiers took on the track under a banner of courage, mateship, endurance and sacrifice; these are the same inspiring values we see in the young people at the school who are burdened by illness, and in the staff whose care and compassion ensures they are engaged in education and are 'Getting Better Every Day!'
If you have the means, please click on the link to donate (follow the instructions below) to our school and make a difference to the lives of young people across the Shire.
