The Sutherland Hospital School delivers a virtual tour of the Sutherland Hospital to our stage 1 students. Stage 1 outcomes supported include English, PD/H/PE and Science. Our teachers will visit your school and deliver the incursion in the classroom.
The virtual tour is made up of 3 x 20 minute segments with a 10 minute break between each segment. There is a maximum of 25 students per session (session times are 9.30am - 11.00am, this time is flexible).
The cost is $5.00 per child in 2023
The tour commences with our teacher Jackie meeting her friend Mariah in the foyer. It continues with a visit to Medical Imaging, Paediatric Emergency and finally the Child & Adolescent Ward. The students will see Mariah as she role plays procedures such as an ultrasound, x-ray and blood test. Following this we will meet a ward nurse who explains Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and another nurse who will take Mariah through various observations (Obs) that a nurse or Dr may perform when you come into hospital as a patient.
Our incursion is very interactive and the students will have an opportunity to dress up as a medical professional or patient. They will also learn how to use a stethoscope as they check for a heart beat.
At the end of the tour the class will be given a tour actvivity pack which includes a work booklet and certificate as well as a few other goodies.
